BONNY EAGLE High School students Jen Pelizza and Nicole Pelizza recently placed first at the Maine History Day Competition in Augusta. Fellow student Katie Quinn placed second while Allie Parkin and Lauren Sharples took third. The Pelizzas and Quinn have qualified to represent Maine at the University of Maryland in June.

Bonny Eagle Middle School won overall best middle school in the state at the event. Middle school participant/winners included Caroline George, Samantha Smith, Ryan Harris, Dan Lindburg, Eva and Anna Niedermeyer, Kyuanna Libby, Jamie Gammon, Marissa Gochie, Crystal Reynolds and Alyssa McLaughlin. 

INDUCTED into the Bonny Eagle High School French Honor Society: Dylan Link, Samantha Labbe, Avery Wormwood, Nathan Martel, Meaghan Kane, Matthew Therriault, Kate Boyer, Sarabeth George, Alecia Steidler, Nicole Pelizza, Andrea Pelayo, Alexis Pinkham and Elizabeth Wellman.

SKIDOMPHA Public Library recently honored two helpers with Volunteer of the Year Awards. Parker Carey of Damariscotta was honored for 20 years of service and Rem Briggs of Newcastle for his service to the library’s book shop.

THORNTON ACADEMY Middle School Grade 6 students raised more than $300 benefitting Cambodian School Children as part of Kindness Challenge. The students sold paper shamrocks and collected change to fund their project “The Great Bedtime Pajama Drive — Scholastic Books,” purchasing new pajamas and bedtime storybooks to be shipped to Cambodia orphans. The pupils were inspired by a visit from Michael Chase, founder of The Kindness Center, whose vision is to create a more peaceful and kindhearted world.

WELLS

THE WELLS-Ogunquit Community School District announced the winners of its 25th Literary Achievement Awards. First place, Kindergarten through Grade 12 respectively, were Alivia Boucher, Grace Boucher, Hayden Barker, Hannah Bradish, Brianna Michaud-Nolan, Madison Szcygiel, Adia Montagna, Talia Auen, Julianne Fitzpatrick, Corey Zinck, Laura Kirol, Patrick Menard and Kathleen Pyburn. Pyburn took top overall honors and $500. First-place winners each received $100, second-place winners received $50, third-place winners got $25 and honorable mentions received a gift certificate to the Steakhouse in Wells.

EAST WATERBORO

CAMP LAUGHING has been awarded a one-year $14,000 grant by United Way of York County to support its healthy foundations for life initiatives in education, income and physical fitness.
