The spring theater season is in full swing, with several shows on stage in the region:

• Mad Horse Theatre closes its season with “Spring Awakening” featuring local high school actors. The play (not the Tony-winning musical) runs through May 22 at Lucid Stage, 29 Baxter Blvd., Portland, with performances at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. First performed in Germany in 1906, “Spring Awakening” traces the dawning sexual awareness of a group of teenagers. Frank Wedekind’s play also touches on suicide and abortion. Christine Louise Marshall directs.

• Stone Pinhead Ensemble offers the original musical “Jesus and the Pirates” by John T. Nichols and Charles Brown Jr. It runs through May 15 at the St. Lawrence Arts Center, 76 Congress St., Portland, with performances at 7:30 p.m. today, Thursday, Saturday and May 15; and at 8 p.m. Friday. • The Public Theatre, 31 Maple St., Lewiston, continues with “Beau Jest,” a romantic comedy, through May 15, with performances at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. May 15.
