WATERBORO – Caleb Kenney had four goals and an assist, and Seamus Kilbride added two goals Saturday as Portland held on for a 9-8 victory against Massabesic in a schoolboy lacrosse game.

Portland (6-0) built a 9-5 lead and held off a surge by the Mustangs (3-2).

Jake Desrochers had four goals and one assist, and Brady Harrison, Stephen Chaves and Pat Wyman added a goal and an assist apiece for Massabesic.

 

FREEPORT 10, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 1: Hans Pope finished with four goals and two assists, and Connor McGhie scored twice to pace the Falcons (3-2) past the Raiders (0-6) at Freeport.

Jordan Cyr, Dylan Arris, Jordan Roy and Thomas Provencher also scored for Freeport.

CAPE ELIZABETH 17, NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 2: Teddy Smith scored five goals as the Capers (4-1) downed North Yarmouth Academy (2-3) at Cape Elizabeth.

The Capers scored 17 goals and had another 19 blocked at the cage.

Wilson Laprade added four goals for the Capers. Tim Lavallee had two goals and four assists, and Casey O’Donovan and Justin Cary scored twice each. Smith and Laprade each assisted on two goals.

Jack Roos made 14 saves for Cape.

WAYNFLETE 12, NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 10: Sadie Cole and Martha Veroneau scored four goals apiece for the Flyers (4-1), who took a 6-5 halftime lead and held off the Panthers (2-4) at Portland.

Lilly Wellenbach scored six goals for NYA.

SOFTBALL

LAKE REGION 2, CAPE ELIZABETH 0: Allison Clark hit a two-run single in the seventh inning, and also struck out four and walked two in a two-hitter to lift the Lakers (2-4) over the Capers (4-2) at Cape Elizabeth.

Ally Boyington of the Capers, who took a no-hitter into the seventh, finished with a four-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks.

SACOPEE VALLEY SWEEPS NYA: Chelsey Burnell had four hits, including a grand slam, as the Hawks (6-0) cruised to a 24-1 victory against the Panthers (0-5) in the opener at Yarmouth.

Shelly Pellegrino struck out seven in a one-hitter for Sacopee.

The Hawks completed the sweep with a 31-1 victory behind Liz Moulton’s two-hitter.

Both games went five innings.

 

DIRIGO 11, MADISON 10: Alyssa Wade singled, stole second and scored on a single by Tasha Deroche in the eighth inning as Dirigo (4-4) beat the Bulldogs (4-2) at Madison.

Madison scored nine times in the first inning, including an inside-the-park grand slam by Natalie Michaud. Kayla Booker added a two-run single and Kayla Belanger an RBI single for Madison. Sierra Leblanc had three singles, while Erika Parker had two and Booker two for the Bulldogs.

Deroche also hit a solo home run in the second inning for Dirigo. Paige Murphy added two singles.

FRIDAY’S SOFTBALL

FRYEBURG ACADEMY 13, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 4: Sarah Harriman pitched a four-hitter with 13 strikeouts as the Raiders (8-0) beat Gray-New Gloucester (2-4) at Fryeburg.

 

BONNY EAGLE 12, WINDHAM 3: Lindsay Somerset had three hits, including a two-run double, and scored three runs to pace the Scots (2-4) against the Eagles (1-5) at Standish.

Brittney Murray, Mariah Harrison and Aly Pillar had two hits each for the Scots.

 

MT. ARARAT 5, MT. BLUE 1: Miranda Riendeau pitched a four-hitter with eight strikeouts and one walk to lead the Eagles (4-4) over the Cougars (0-7) at Topsham.
