BOSTON — The Boston Red Sox placed shortstop Marco Scutaro on the 15-day disabled list with a strained oblique and called up infielder Jose Iglesias from Triple-A Pawtucket.

The moves were made before today’s game against the Minnesota Twins.

Manager Terry Francona said Scutaro had been bothered by sore left side the past few days and went for an MRI exam this morning.

He played 20 games at short, starting 17, hitting .235 with one home run and eight RBI.

Iglesias is in the majors for the first time. He was batting .253 in 24 games with Pawtucket, scoring 11 runs and driving in four. He played in 57 games with the Portland Sea Dogs last season.
