BANGOR — A South Berwick man is due to go on trial this summer in the hit-and-run death of a University of Maine student who was hit by a vehicle that police say was being driven on the wrong side of an Orono street.

Twenty-three-year-old Garrett Cheney is charged with manslaughter, criminal operating under the influence of intoxicants and other charges stemming from the Jan. 30, 2010, crash that killed 20-year-old Jordyn Bakley of Camden.

Police say Bakley was killed instantly in the 3 a.m. crash, but her body was not found for about two hours.

Cheney had no criminal record prior to the crash.

The Bangor Daily News says the trial will most likely will be held in July, although no date has been set yet.
