The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a head-on collision on Route 17 in Washington that killed one person this morning.
The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of family.
Witnesses said a vehicle heading east on Route 17, while trying to pass another vehicle, pulled in front of an oncoming truck headed west. The accident happened about 9 a.m., according to Chief Deputy Tim Carroll of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
The occupant of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The occupant of the truck, who asked that their name not be released, was transported to Penobscot Bay Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash is being reconstructed by the Maine State Police, with assistance from the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.
