State Police have scheduled a news conference for 1:30 p.m. to provide whatever updates they can on the effort to identify the boy whose body was found over the weekend in South Berwick.

Police received many more leads overnight following coverage of the case on cable television and via the Internet.

“There have been an incredible amount of tips that have come in,” Steve McCausland, State Police spokesman, said this morning.

Police investigated one promising lead received Tuesday in Maine, but the boy involved turned out to be fine, he said.

Many people are suggesting police look into active missing children cases, but police have already checked every one, McCausland said.

Police anticipate that a DNA profile of the boy will be completed by today which could aid in the effort to identify him, a necessary first step in determining what happened to him, police said.
