WELLS — A dirt bike rider was in critical condition at Maine Medical Center in Portland after he crashed his bike Sunday evening in Wells.
Sgt. Daniel Bean said that 19-year-old Eben Nieuwkerk was injured when his dirt bike went down an embankment and hit a tree.
Nieuwkerk was riding with a friend on a trail that goes over the top of an underground pipeline between Chick Crossing Road and Clark Road.
Bean said the crash was reported to police around 6:30 p.m. Nieuwkerk was wearing a helmet.
