PORTLAND — The Deering High School spring concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday will feature four pieces composed or arranged by students.

Angela Liang, a Deering senior, wrote “Without a Care” and “This Just Doesn’t End.” Both pieces will be performed in honor of Mark Nordli, a Deering music teacher who is retiring this year.

“Angela’s pieces have wonderful harmonies, and bring the folk music idiom to a classical string orchestra in interesting combinations,” said Julianne Eberl, orchestra director for the district’s secondary schools.

Angela plays violin, piano, clarinet and guitar. She has been a member of the orchestra program since fourth grade. She plans to major in music education at Clark University in Worcester, Mass.

“Life on the Willows,” composed by Deering sophomore Mercedes Meyers, and “Dance of Thorns,” arranged by Arsen Tufankjian, a Portland High junior, also will be performed.
