AUGUSTA — Maine soldiers and those with ties to Maine who gave their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan honored today at the State House.

During today’s memorial in the Hall of Flags, dog tags representing each of the 11 soldiers were placed on the Battlefield Cross Memorial, a bronze representation of a rifle pointing downward into the ground, capped by a helmet with boots at the side.

Gov. Paul LePage said words cannot do justice to the sacrifices being honored. He said the soldiers must always be remembered.

LePage was joined by Maj. Gen. John Libby, head of the state National Guard, at the ceremony, which was attended by nearly 100 people.
