The University of Maine baseball team will head to Chapel Hill, N.C. Friday for the team’s first trip to an NCAA Regional since 2006.

No. 4 Maine (32-22) will face top seed North Carolina (45-14) at 6 p.m. Friday in the four-team regional. UNC is the overall No. 3 seed in NCAA field of 64.

Maine earned the America East automatic bid by winning the conference tournament last week 3-0 at Stony Brook, N.Y.

The team gathered at the Sea Dog, a restaurant in Bangor, to find out seedings on ESPNs “Road to Omaha” selection show at 12:30 p.m.

“Going to a regional is what I’ve wanted to do since I’ve been here,” said Portland’s Joey Martin, a co-captain and senior. “It’s awesome.”

Maine has won 17 of its last 18 games.
