LYMAN — Two York County women are dead following a crash in Lyman early this morning that police say stemmed from alcohol and speed.

Juliza McCurry, 22, of Biddeford was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Lumina west on South Waterboro Road at 12:34 a.m. when she lost control on a curve near Hamilton Road, according to a release from the York County Sheriff’s Office.

The car hit a rock then flipped and hit a large tree. McCurry and her passenger, Sheri Watson, 22, of Sanford were killed instantly despite wearing seatbelts, police said.

Firefighters from Goodwin Mills and Waterboro worked for two hours to extricate the women from the car’s wreckage, the release said.

The crash remains under investigation.
