The track season is complete, the tennis postseason is in full swing and the Mid-Coast is about to see an abundance of baseball and lacrosse playoff action.

Here’s a glimpse:

Tennis

Brunswick’s Maisie Silverman, seeded third, reached the final of the state singles tournament earlier this week.

Silverman advanced by virtue of wins over Ellsworth’s Holly Wadman (6-0, 6-0), Belfast’s Shashanna Moll (6-2, 6-1), McAuley’s Addie Devine (6-0, 6-1) and Falmouth’s Annie Criscione, the No. 2 seed (6-3, 7-5). In the final, Silverman fell to top-ranked Maria Varano of Kennebunk, 2-6, 1-6.

In the team playoffs, the top-ranked Brunswick girls reached the regional final after eliminating No. 4 Cony, 5-0, in the semifinals Monday. The Dragons (13-0) battled No. 2 Lewiston (11-2) for the right to play in Saturday’s state final against either Gorham (12-2) or Scarborough (11-3). That match starts at 10 a.m.

The Morse girls, ranked seventh, lost, 5-0, to No. 2 Oak Hill in the Western B quarterfinals and finished 5-8.

On the boys’ side, Mt. Ararat, ranked fifth, upset No. 4 Brunswick, 3-2, in the quarterfinals, ending the Dragons’ season at 9-4. Monday, the Eagles lost, 4-1, to top-seeded Lewiston to finish 9-5.

Morse was the No. 8 seed in Western B and was eliminated, 5-0, by No. 1 Falmouth in the quarterfinals. The Shipbuilders wound up 6-7.

Track

Local outdoor track teams competed at the Class A state meet Saturday in Windham.

The Mt. Ararat girls had the best showing, tying Bangor for seventh with 36.5 points. Bonny Eagle was the champion with 82. Brunswick (20) finished 14th. Morse (8) placed 18th.

The Eagles were led by Randi London, runner-up in the shot put (37 feet, 2.5 inches) and third in the discus (106-3). The top Dragon was Alexis Dickinson, who was second in the 100 (12.88 seconds).

In the boys’ meet, also won by Bonny Eagle with 94 points, Mt. Ararat came in ninth with 27 points and Brunswick 10th with 25. Morse failed to score.

The Eagles got a win from Jamie Rosenberg in the javelin (169-11). McKenzie Gary finished second in the long jump (21-2).

The Dragons got a victory from pole vaulter Mike Slovenski (13-6). Mitchell Black was runner-up in the 800 (1 minute, 59.66 seconds).

Boys’ lacrosse

The boys’ lacrosse playoffs began Tuesday when Mt. Ararat went to Messalonskee (11-1) in the Eastern A quarterfinals. The sixth-ranked Eagles (6-6) lost at home to third-seeded Messalonskee, 10-7, back on May 11. If victorious, Mt. Ararat plays at No. 2 Deering (11-1) in the semifinals Saturday. The Eagles and Rams did not meet this season.

Wednesday, Brunswick and Morse played road quarterfinals.

The Dragons, fifth in Eastern A at 6-6, went to No. 4 Portland (9-3). The teams didn’t play this year, but met in the 2007 and 2009 Class A state games. The winner earned a trip to No.1 Lewiston (11-1) for the semifinals Saturday. Brunswick lost twice to the Blue Devils this year, 15-1 at home April 27 and 6-1 in Lewiston May 21.

The Shipbuilders wound up fifth in Eastern B with a 7-5 mark and played at fourth-ranked North Yarmouth Academy (5-7). The teams didn’t play this year. If Morse could spring the upset, it would go to No. 1 St. Dom’s (12-0) in the semis on Saturday. The Shipbuilders lost, 9-8, at home to the Saints on May 10.

Looking ahead, the regional final round is Wednesday, on the field of the highest remaining seed. The state championship games are Saturday, June 18, at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland.

Girls’ lacrosse

On the girls’ side, perennial powerhouse Brunswick is once again the top seed in Eastern A with a 9-3 mark. The Dragons are idle until Saturday’s semifinal round when they’ll host either defending regional champion and No. 4 seed Mt. Ararat (7-5) or No. 5 Portland (6-6). Those teams squared off in the quarterfinals Tuesday.

Brunswick beat Mt. Ararat, 13-6, in Topsham April 27 and 10-9 at home in the regular season finale last Tuesday.

In Eastern B, Morse (8-4) earned the No. 4 seed and a semifinal round date at top-ranked Yarmouth (11-1) Saturday at 2 p.m. The teams didn’t play this spring.

Looking ahead, the regional final round is Wednesday, on the field of the highest remaining seed. The state championship games are Saturday, June 18, at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland.

Baseball

Brunswick was the only local baseball team to qualify for the playoffs. The Dragons finished 10-6 and earned the No. 5 seed, sending them to No. 4 Mt. Blue (11-5) for the quarterfinals Thursday. The teams did not play this year.

Mt. Ararat wound up 4-12 and 12th in the region. Morse was also 4-12 and 13th.

Softball

No local softball teams made the postseason.

Mt. Ararat came closest, finishing 9-7 and ninth in the region, but only eight teams qualified.

Brunswick was 3-13 and 13th. Morse wound up 1-15 and 14th.
