OLD ORCHARD BEACH — For the first time in more than two decades, a baseball team is calling Old Orchard Beach’s baseball park its home.

Maine Gov. Paul LePage is throwing out the first pitch when the Raging Tide baseball team plays its home opener today against the Sanford Mainers at The Ballpark. Gates open at 4:30 p.m.

This is the first time since 1988 that a team has claimed the park as its home field.

The Ballpark was home to the Maine Guides and the Maine Phillies in the 1980s, but fell into disrepair after the Phillies left town after the 1988 season. After volunteers refurbished the park, it reopened to baseball last year but no team called it its home.

The Raging Tide plays in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, a 12-team league featuring college players from New England and beyond.
