PORTLAND — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and other agencies were at Hobsons Wharf for an enforcement operation today.

Michael Lana, an ICE resident agent in charge at the wharf, said he could not provide any other details other than to say there was no public safety or national security risk.

Law enforcement officers monitored the gate to the wharf off Commercial Street. Vehicles coming from or going to the businesses on the wharf were allowed to enter and exit.

An exporter of sea urchins and other seafood, a chandlery, a drum group and an art studio are located on the wharf.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Maine Marine Patrol, the Coast Guard and the Portland Police Department were on the scene.

A Boston-based spokesman for ICE referred questions to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Portland, where a spokesman said he could not comment.
