FREEPORT — Roberta Helen (Soule) Bailey Nason, 89, died peacefully June 14.

A daughter of Robert Soule and Margaret Curtis Soule Leighton, she was born on Sept. 16, 1921, in Lisbon Falls and educated in Freeport schools.

In 1939 she married Harold Bailey of Freeport and worked at local shoe manufacturers for some time.

She married Kenneth Nason in 1961 and eventually retired to New Mexico in 1979.

In 2003 she left New Mexico to live with her daughter, Reta, in Freeport.

A life-long member of the Harraseeket Grange, she had recently received her 75-year certificate.

She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and was a faithful and active member of Gospel Light Fellowship.

In addition to spending time with her family, she enjoyed poetry, singing, drama, playing the harmonica and traveling.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Harold, and their two sons, Robert and William Bailey, her second husband, Kenneth, a daughter, Joanne Markham, two sons, Parker and Michael Nason, and two grandsons.

Surviving her are three children, daughter Reta Carter and her husband Wilbur of Freeport, son George Bailey and his wife Kathy of Tennessee and son Kenneth Nason and his wife Lila of Alabama; her sister Frances Thompson of Freeport, and her brother Edgar Leighton and his wife Dot of Freeport; 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and dear friends.

A memorial service was held at Gospel Light Fellowship in West Bath on June 17.
