FARMINGTON — The Farmington police chief says the stabbing death of an 81-year-old woman in her Farmington home tears apart the fabric of the community.

Farmington Police Chief Jack Peck says investigators from state, county and federal agencies are continuing to investigate the Tuesday killing of Grace Burton in her home at the Margaret Chase Smith Apartments.

Burton called 911 early Tuesday after her assailant apparently entered her apartment. She died several hours later at a Lewiston hospital.

Peck tells the Sun Journal of Lewiston that people have a right to be concerned and should lock their doors and keep their residences well-lighted. He said that if anything makes people feel unsafe they should call police.
