FREEPORT — Freeport, Yarmouth and Chebeague Island will celebrate Independence Day with parades, fireworks, races and activities for the whole family.

There will be a blueberry pancake and sausage breakfast in Freeport, starting at 7 a.m. Monday, July 4, at Saint Jude Hall on Main Street. At 7:30 a.m. the L.L. Bean 10K road race starts at the intersection of Bow and South streets. The race route takes South Freeport Road to the South Freeport village and loops through and back to Pine Street, Lower Main Street and the finish line at the intersection of Bow and Main streets. 

At 9:15 a.m. children can participate in a one-mile fun run. The race starts at Bow and South streets and travels to Porter’s Landing and back. Portions of South Street will be blocked for about a half an hour.

A 10 a.m. parade will kick off at Upper Main Street and Kendall Lane, traveling south on Main Street. 

The L.L. Bean concert in the park starts at 7:30 p.m. with a performance by Red Horse. Fireworks start at 9:30 p.m. at the Freeport Athletic Field.

On Sunday, July 3, at 6 p.m., The Modest Proposal and other musicians from the Maine Academy of Modern Music and the Mallet Brothers will perform at Discovery Park.

In Yarmouth on Saturday, July 2, there will be a special graveside ceremony at the Baptist Cemetery on Hillside Street at 1 p.m. for a Civil War soldier, Pvt. William Johnson. Johnson has been interred at the cemetery since the time of his death, but his grave was not properly marked. The ceremony will include Civil War re-enactors.

On Chebeague, registration for a Fourth of July road race and fun run starts at 8:30 a.m. at the Historical Society.  The 1.1-mile fun run starts at 9 a.m. and the 5.6-mile road race begins at 10 a.m.

A parade starts at 11:30 a.m. along South Road by the Chebeague Inn. There will be a picnic, music and family activities in the school yard after the parade with burgers, drinks and a bake sale.
