YARMOUTH — Carlene Coffin Hincks, 96, died June 25 at Coastal Manor after a short illness.  

Born in Yarmouth, Feb. 21, 1915, the daughter of Carl C. and Ruby Heard Phipps Coffin, she attended Yarmouth schools, graduating from North Yarmouth Academy in 1932.  

After graduating from the Golden School of Beauty Culture in Portland in 1935, she worked as a hairdresser for several years in Gray and Portland.  

In 1943, she married Thomas F. Hincks, who died in 1975.

She was a longtime, active member and Sunday school teacher at the First Parish Congregational Church of Yarmouth. Other community activities included serving as a charter member of the Twice Fifteen Club, a civic and social club in Yarmouth, and belonging to local art clubs.

She learned to skate at age 9, and skated every year until age 71.  Her other hobbies included hooking and braiding rugs, painting, gardening, dancing, swimming and taking long walks.  

In later years, she enjoyed researching her genealogy.

Her husband Thomas, and her brother, Russell P. Coffin, predeceased her.   

Surviving are her two nephews, Gary R. Coffin and his wife Nancy, and Wayne E. Coffin and his wife Vivian; several grandnieces and grandnephews; several cousins; and many friends.

Her family and friends would like to thank Beacon Hospice and the staff at Coastal Manor for her wonderful care.

There will be a graveside service at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, at Riverside Cemetery in Yarmouth.
