SACO — A new dorm on the Thornton Academy campus will be dedicated tonight in name of the school’s Headmaster Carl Stasio and his wife Barbara.
The Carl and Barbara Stasio Residence Hall is the second on campus and will house 42 female boarding students. A dedication ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m. tonight at the hall.
“It is an honor for Barbara and I to be recognized by the Board, our friends and colleagues. Thornton Academy has a rich history and to be part of it is remarkable,” Stasio said.
Stasio plans to retire in July 2012. He has served as headmaster for 25 years and has led the addition of an integrated arts center, a middle school and a boarding program in recent years.
“It is hard to express our great appreciation for Carl’s dedication to Thornton Academy. Under his direction we have broadened our offerings to include 13 AP courses, 34 honors courses, 9 foreign languages, athletics and extracurricular activities for all interests. We also know he couldn’t have devoted his efforts to TA without the loving support of his family,” Board of Trustees President Eric Purvis said.
