NAPLES — The Lakes Environmental Association is asking boaters to stay out of Songo Lock until after Labor Day.

The association, based in Bridgton, has been working since May to remove invasive mifoil from Brandy Pond and the Songo River and is asking boaters to steer clear of the area to help with that effort.

According to a press release from the association, the milfoil infestation on the lower Songo River is not as widespread as it was last year. The growth of the plant, however, is at its peak for the season and boat inspectors are finding an increasing number of milfoil plants.

The association also asks boaters and property owners to be on the lookout for the plants.
