KENNEBUNK — The town police officer involved in a March fatal shooting is on paid administrative leave again.

Officer Joshua Morneau was placed on paid administrative leave about two weeks ago in connection with a matter that took place while he was off-duty, according to Lt. Anthony Bean Burpee.

Morneau brought the matter to a supervisor’s attention after the event, Bean Burpee wrote in an email. The department is conducting an internal investigation. So far, nothing indicates that Morneau was involved in anything criminal or violated department policy, according to Bean Burpee.

On March 27, Morneau and another officer responded to a domestic disturbance call and Morneau fatally shot 39-year-old Katherine Paulson.

The Attorney General’s Office continues to investigate the shooting, as it does for all instances of deadly force by police. The Kennebunk Police Department is investigating to determine whether its policies and procedures were followed.

Bean Burpee said he hopes both investigations will be completed within the next month. He said much of the department’s review hinges on investigative material from the Attorney General’s Office.
