PORTLAND – Traffic on Interstate 295 South near the Falmouth line was backed up for more than two miles after a car’s gas tank came off at 4:15 p.m. today.
Nobody was injured, but gasoline was running over the road and into the grass alongside it, authorities said.
Firefighters were summoned as a precaution, and traffic was narrowed to one lane as late as 6 p.m. as cleanup was completed.
