Plowman excels

Lawrence Academy in Groton, Mass., has congratulated junior Emily Plowman, who earned academic honors for the spring trimester. Plowman is the daughter of Bonny and Stephen Plowman of Gorham.

Smith receives college grant

Courtney Smith was one of 40 Saint Michael’s College students to be awarded grants to do research with a professor this summer.

Smith, a senior education and religious studies double major, graduated from Gorham High School before coming to Saint Michael’s in Burlington, Vt.

Smith is the daughter of Jonathan and Cynthia Smith of Gorham.

Smith is carrying out a project titled “Creating interpretive signage to educate visitors to the Teaching Gardens”

Delta Knights ?in concert

The Delta Knights will play in a free concert 6:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9, in the gazebo on the lawn at Gorham Municipal Center, 75 South St.

The band plays rhythm and blues, swing and classic rock. Gorham Recreation Department sponsors the concert. Free parking is available along South Street or in the municipal parking lot.

Teddy bear picnic

Baxter Memorial Library, 71 South St., is hosting Teddy Bear’s picnic at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9.

This event will be held on the lawn or the in the gazebo, weather permitting, and is recommended for babies and toddlers. Everyone is invited to listen to stories, bring their teddies and a picnic lunch to enjoy with other families.

Church a cappella concert

White Rock Baptist Church, 300 Sebago Lake Road, is hosting a free concert at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13. The Grace Notes are a cappella musicians.

There is no admission fee, but there will be an opportunity for people to donate to the ministry of the musicians.

U.S. taxpayer debt

The Bureau of Public Debt reported on July 28 that the U.S. public debt was $14,342,865,885,306.46.
