The Maine Junior Legion Baseball double-elimination tournament begins today at the University of Southern Maine at Gorham. The opening game at 11 a.m. matches Seacoast Law and Title of Westbrook with Orthopaedic Associates of Yarmouth. At 2 p.m., the Windham Merchants face Lewiston, last year’s champion.

Coast to Coast Baseball
will hold a tryout and hitting camp for players ages 10 to 18 at 10 a.m. Aug. 20 at Southern Maine Sports Zone in Saco. Players will be evaluated on hitting, fielding, speed and arm strength. Players accepted into the Coast to Coast program will be able to represent the United States in competition in Puerto Rico or work with college coaches and professional scouts at one of Coast to Coast’s camp and showcase events held at major league spring training facilities in Florida and Arizona. The hitting camp begins at 2 p.m. and will help players with fundamentals and mental approach. The Western Maine Veterans’ Advisory Committee will hold a scramble format golf tournament Aug. 24 at Fairlawn Golf Course in Poland to benefit the Maine Veterans’ Home in South Paris.
