LEWISTON — A 24-year-old Maine woman has placed fourth in the 2012 Ms. Wheelchair America contest.
Monica Quimby represented Maine in Saturday’s contest in Grand Rapids, Mich., where a field of 26 contestants competed for the title.
Paralyzed in a ski accident five years ago, Quimby is an adjunct professor at Southern Maine Community College. She is originally from Turner and now lives in Scarborough.
She told the Sun Journal of Lewiston that her purpose for entering the contest was was to promote the importance of setting goals in education, career, advocacy and independence.
