FARMINGTON — An 87-year-old woman was in stable condition at the hospital Wednesday morning after her car’s wheel rolled over her leg the day before in the Walmart parking lot.

Edith Leblanc, of Livermore Falls, was admitted to Franklin Memorial Hospital, where she was in stable condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Leblanc was parking her 2004 Hyundai at Walmart about 5 p.m. when she noticed the trunk was open. She got out of the four-door sedan without putting it in park, according to Bonnie Pomeroy, spokeswoman for the Farmington police.

The car started to roll backwards and the door knocked Leblanc to the ground and the driver’s side front wheel rolled over her leg, Pomeroy said. Pomeroy said the information came from police reports of the accident and the reports did not say which leg was rolled over.

The car continued to roll backwards until a passerby jumped into the driver’s seat and stopped the car, Pomeroy said.

A 90-year-old woman, Jeannette Buck, was a passenger in the car, and Pomeroy didn’t know if she got out of the car before it rolled over Leblanc. She didn’t have other details about the passerby or Buck.

Leblanc had leg abrasions and was taken by ambulance to the hospital, according to Pomeroy.
