AUGUSTA — State Rep. John Martin says cutting too much government spending in Maine will end up hurting towns and cities, roads, schools, business growth and job creation.

In the Democratic radio address today, Martin takes Gov. Paul LePage to task for saying a streamlining commission on which Martin serves should find ways to cut government spending “until it hurts.”

The commission is charged by law with finding $25 million in savings in state spending, but LePage now wants the panel to find $100 million in cuts.

Martin says he’s all for finding savings, but that the state shouldn’t “cut until it hurts just for the sake of cutting.”
