YORK — A California-based nonprofit that teaches people with disabilities to ski is coming to Maine.
AmpSurf will be holding Learn to Surf clinics on Thursday and Friday at Long Sands Beach in York. Founder Dana Cummings started the organization in 2003 after losing his leg.
He tells the Journal Tribune the program isn’t limited to people who’ve lost limbs. He says anyone with a disability, including blindness, is welcome to attend.
Cummings says it’s important to have people with different types of disabilities. He says that seeing others’ struggles helps people to get beyond their own disabilities.
