AUBURN — Passage of a Maine law dealing with recycling of old TV and computer monitors is a boon for a company in Auburn that now plans to expand its operations, adding 18 jobs by the end of September.
The Sun Journal of Lewiston says EWaste Recycling Solutions hopes to add the first two new employees this week.
The company breaks down discarded televisions and computers then resells the plastics, metals and other materials on the commodities market.
But the company couldn’t do much with the biggest part of most computer equipment, the monitor, because the funnel glass on the back of most cathode ray tubes is lead-bearing glass and considered hazardous materials.
Recent legislation allows the company to disassemble the cathode ray tubes at their Maine location.
