PORTLAND — A Florida man facing federal money laundering charges stemming from a scheme that allegedly defrauded 30,000 investors out of $837 million has been arrested at his summer home in Maine.

Henry Fecker III, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., also faces charges of obstructing justice. A federal indictment accuses the 57-year-old Fecker and his partner, Steven Steiner, of funneling money from Mutual Benefits Corp. into an account they controlled.

They’re accused of using illegal proceeds to buy a $2.2 million home in Camden, Maine.

Officials say Fecker was being held at the Cumberland County Jail after the FBI arrested him in Camden on Wednesday, a day after an arrest warrant was signed in Florida. It was unclear if he had an attorney.
