AUGUSTA  — The Maine Conservation Department is hoping to open Sebago State Park’s campground in time for the upcoming Labor Day weekend, saying it was damaged more extensively by Tropical Storm Irene that they thought earlier.

Maine’s most popular state park will remain closed at least until Friday because of the extensive tree damage and lack of power caused by the storm.

Park officials say they’re working as hard as they can to open for the Labor Day weekend. They say the real issue is not getting rid of wood, but getting back power so the park can run water, sewer and lights.
