BIDDEFORD — About three dozen people gathered this morning for a walk to benefit a Jackman family who lost their son and their home in July.

As family and friends kicked off the walk from the community center on Alfred Street, it was like a parade of blue in honor of 5-year-old Liam Mahaney who was killed July 19 when a logging truck overturned near his house, sending logs through rooms on the first floor. The boy was sleeping on the couch in the family’s home at the time. The house was later torn down.

Since the tragedy, the Biddeford and Jackman communities have united to raise funds for Liam’s parents, Gary and Christina Mahaney. Family and friends hope money raised can help the family rebuild their home.

In addition to today’s walk, a Sept. 17 event, “Rock for Liam,” will be held at Champions Sports Bar in Biddeford to benefit the family.
