FREEPORT — More than 800 athletes are swimming, running and biking for the annual Tri-Maine’s Lobsterman Triathlon in Freeport.

The race began this morning at Winslow Park, where participants will swim 1 1/2 miles in the ocean before heading out on a 24-mile bike ride through Freeport and Brunswick. The race ends with a 6.2-mile run that finishes at Winslow Park.

Organizers say athletes from 25 states and Canadian provinces are competing.

A lobster bake is planned after the race.
