BATH — Robert A. Lowery, 81, died Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Mid Coast Senior Center in Brunswick.
Born on May 30, 1930, the son of John and Margaret (McDonald) Lowery, he grew up in Bath and graduated from Morse High School in 1948, where he was a sports enthusiast, playing basketball, football and track.
He joined the U.S. Army in 1950 and was a member of the National Guard until 1955, when he returned home to work at Bath Iron Works.
In 1963 he joined the Bath Police Department, and proudly served his community until retiring in 1976.
On March 3, 1968, he married Annette Haines and the couple made their home in Bath.
A family-oriented man who also loved his dogs, his day didn’t start until he had breakfast with his three dogs every morning.
He enjoyed big band music and was an active member of the Drum and Bugle Corps of Bath. Additionally, he loved roses and was the president of the Jackson & Perkins Rose Club.
He was a member of the American Legion Smith Tobey Post 21.
His four brothers, Ned, Earl, John and Arthur Lowery, predeceased him.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 43 years, Annette Lowery of Bath; son Raymond Lowery Whitt, his wife Jean, and their children Derick and Kristian, all of Bath; son John Lowery and his children Mavrick and Malchi, all of Bangor; daughter Lori and her husband Carl Wilkins of Dresden; daughter Bobbi-Jo, her husband Daniel Wilson, and their daughter Carolyn, all of Lubsy, Md.; daughter Teri, her husband Robert Tomzick, and their children, Danielle, Shannon, and Earica, all of Franklin, N.J.; daughter Tammra Waston and her children, Jessica, Randy, Eric, and Aaron, all of Old Orchard; sister, Frances Besaw of Waterville; four great-grandchildren; a special niece, Jackie Medeiros and her husband Chris of Richmond; and a lifelong treasured friend, Captain Paul Alan Gregware of Indiana.
Memorial donations may be made to the Bath Sports Boosters Club, 826 High St., Bath, ME 04530.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bath.
