PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Lelia Sacre scored two goals and the University of Maine wiped out a 1-0 deficit to beat Michigan State 4-1 Saturday in a college field hockey game.

The victory was the eighth straight for the Black Bears following a season-opening loss. The Spartans fell to 2-5.

Sacre broke a 1-1 tie 10 minutes into the second half. Stephanie Gardiner scored 10 minutes later, assisted by Kelly Newton, and Courtney Glynn made it 4-1 with her third goal of the season.

MIDDLEBURY 5, COLBY 1: Lauren Greer had two goals and an assist as the seventh-ranked Panthers (2-0, 2-0 NESCAC) downed the Mules (0-2, 0-2) at Middlebury, Vt.

Hannah O’Brien scored for Colby.

UNE 4, ENDICOTT 2: Hannah Tavella and Michelle Oswald each scored two goals to lead the Nor’easters (7-0) past the Gulls (1-5) in a Commonwealth Coast Conference opener at Biddeford.

AMHERST 7, BATES 1: Krista Zsitvay and Ellie Andersen each scored twice as the Jeffs (2-0, 2-0 NESCAC) beat the Bobcats (1-2, 1-1) at Amherst, Mass.

USM 3, BRIDGEWATER STATE 0: Kaily Bubier scored at 1:18 of the first half and Kayla Kennedy made seven saves as the Huskies (4-3, 2-0 Little East) blanked the Bears (1-3, 0-2) at Bridgewater, Mass.

ST. JOSEPH’S 3, SIMMONS 2: Brittany Locke had two goals to help the Monks (3-1, 1-0 GNAC) hold off the Sharks (4-2, 0-1) at Boston.

WENTWORTH 2, UNE 1: Dan Santacorce scored early in the second half to lift the Leopards (3-1-2, 1-0-1 Commonwealth Coast) past the Nor’easters (2-4, 1-1) at Boston.

Kiel Hiller sent a shot from 25 yards inside the near post to tie the game for UNE in the first half. Aidan McFarland stopped eight shots.

USM 1, WCSU 0: Mazen Aljari scored early in the second half to give Southern Maine (1-5, 1-0 Little East) a victory over Western Connecticut State (1-5, 0-1) at Danbury, Conn.

USM goalie Jeremy Turner made seven saves.

AMHERST 3, BATES 2: Jae Heo scored twice to lead the Jeffs (3-0, 1-0 NESCAC) over the Bobcats (1-2, 0-2) at Amherst, Mass.

Ethan Hirshberg and Ryan March scored for Bates.

BOWDOIN 1, WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 0: The Polar Bears (2-1) got an early goal from Thomas Henshall and held of a rally by the Golden Bears (6-2) for the win at Brunswick.

Will Wise stopped four shots for the shutout.

COLBY 1, MIDDLEBURY 0: Nick Aubin broke a scoreless tie 4:28 into overtime to lift the Mules (2-1, 1-1 NESCAC) over the Panthers (1-1-1, 0-1-1) at Middlebury, Vt.

Ben Joslin made five saves to earn the shutout.

ALBERTUS MAGNUS 2, ST. JOSEPH’S 1: Jamal Howard scored with 33 second left in overtime to give the Falcons (4-2, 2-0 GNAC) a win over the Monks (3-2, 1-1) at Standish.

Mike Sanfilippo scored for the Monks and Kenny Grade had seven saves.

SMCC 2, NHTI 0: Blais Whitney and Kyle Ehlers scored as the Seawolves (4-2, 4-0 YSCC) won at South Portland.

SMCC SWEEPS NHTI: Matt Turnidge had two hits and two RBI as the Seawolves won the opener 8-4 at Concord, N.H.

Mike Vadnais pitched a seven hitter with eight strikeouts as SMCC won the second game, 8-3.
