PORTLAND — Social service agencies banded together for a flash mob in Monument Square this morning to draw attention to National Recovery Month.

Participants danced to Katy Perry’s “Firework.” Other events were planned for the same time across the country.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services sponsors the month. This year’s theme of “Recovery Benefits Everyone” is meant to highlight the message that behavioral health is a part of overall wellness.

The Portland flash mob was organized by Shalom House, Sweetser, the state Office of Adult Mental Health Services, Youth Alternatives Ingraham, Consumer Council System of Maine, Graham Behavioral, Northeast Occupational Exchange and Catholic Charities Support and Recovery Services.
