DAMARISCOTTA — Maine has its clam festival, its lobster festival and its salmon festival.

Today, oysters are taking center stage at the annual Pemaquid Oyster Festival, which is held from noon to dusk at the Schooner Landing Restaurant in Damariscotta.

The event alongside the Damariscotta River is a celebration of the working waterfront and the river’s bounty of oysters.

Oysters will be served on the half shell, broiled, stewed and baked as Oysters Rockefeller. There’ll also be music, an oyster-shucking contest and educational exhibits. Proceeds go to benefit the Edward A. Myers Marine Conservation Fund.

More than 10,000 oysters were eaten at last year’s festival.
