SCARBOROUGH – Grace Whelan scored in the first two minutes Saturday and unbeaten Scarborough went on to a 3-0 victory against Gorham in a Southern Maine Activities Association field hockey game.

Whelan made a quick cut and moved in from the left side of the cage, poking the ball into the corner to give the Red Storm (7-0-1) a 1-0 lead.

Abby Walker then scored from Whelan and Emily Bunting scored from Katie Granzier for a 3-0 halftime lead.

Shannon Hicks finished with three saves for Scarborough. Patty Smith had 18 saves for the Rams (2-6-1).

LAWRENCE 5, MT. ARARAT 0: Caitlin Koller scored three goals to lift the Bulldogs (6-2-1) over the Eagles (0-5-4) at Fairfield.

Julia Lawrence scored the other two goals for Lawrence.

Mt. Ararat goalie Raven Demasi made six saves.

MESSALONSKEE 12, LEWISTON 0: Emily York had three goals and an assist as the Eagles (7-1-1) beat Lewiston (2-5-2) at Oakland.

Kylee Knight and Mara Balboni each scored twice for Messalonskee.

Kathy Michaud, Kristy Bernatchez, Katie Bernatchez, Jessica Boghosian and Linnae Luettich also scored.

WATERVILLE 8, MARANACOOK 0: Jenna Gagnon scored three goals to lead the Purple Panthers (7-2) over Maranacook (0-8-1) at Readfield.

Brianna Bernier, Sage Duguay, Meghan Drummond and Kayla Maheux also scored for Waterville. Gaby Bridger added an assist.

Ally Forkey made 13 saves for Waterville, and Bree Goetz and Sara Duplisea combined for 14 for Maranacook.

MOUNTAIN VALLEY 5, HALL-DALE 1: Becca Mayfield scored two goals and assisted on another to lead the Falcons (5-2) over Hall-Dale (1-5-1) at Rumford.

Peyton Provencher added two goals and Ayla Allen had another for Mountain Valley.

Shamay Gilbert scored an unassisted goal for the Bulldogs.

Hannah Perry made nine saves for Hall-Dale.

GREELY 3, FALMOUTH 1: Maggie Bradley had 21 kills to lead the Rangers (7-0) over the Yachtsmen (5-2) at Cumberland.

Jordan Copp added nine kills and Ellie Weickert had five blocks.

GORHAM 3, LAKE REGION 0: Lindsay Chapman had five aces and four kills, and Vicki Parker added five aces and two kills for the Rams at Gorham.

Lexi Merrifield added four kills and Grace Eaton had 10 assists for Gorham.

FRIDAY’S FIELD HOCKEY

WAYNFLETE 2, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 0: Midfielders Jo Moore and Merilla Michael moved forward to score two goals in two minutes early in the second half as Waynflete (3-5) beat Gray-New Gloucester (0-8) at Portland.

FREEPORT 3, TRAIP ACADEMY 2: Katie Turner’s second-half goal lifted the Falcons (6-2) past the Rangers (3-5) at Freeport.

Traip’s Madeline Lawrence and Freeport’s Abigail Smith traded first-half goals before Abbie Lawrence put the Rangers ahead 2-1 early in the second half. Jenny Breau scored with an assist from Turner to tie the game a minute later.
