FALMOUTH — A former car dealership building at 183 Route 1 is fully leased after being on the market for approximately four months.
The building, owned by the Waldron Group, which also owns the Bangor Savings Bank building at 215 U.S. Route 1, will be occupied by a variety of businesses.
The Maine Real Estate Connection has its sign out and is already moving into the renovated space. Nationwide Insurance will have an office in the building, too.
John Gendron, a commercial real estate agent who represents the Waldron Group, said a high-end estate sales and antiques gallery will be moving in soon. He said a small gym, focused on personal training, has signed a letter of intent.
“From the first day it was put on the market, there was a lot of interest,” Gendron said.
The building most recently was the down-sized home of Portland Saab. Before that it housed a used car dealership and for many years, Performance Motors, a Mercedes-Benz dealership.
He added that Route 1 in Falmouth is a popular location for businesses and said that buildings that have remained empty in the area are either overpriced or difficult spaces to fill, like the former Shaw’s Supermarket building in the Falmouth Shopping Center.
The Waldron Group has also fully leased the Bangor Savings Bank building. Acapello Salon & Spa, now next to Shaw’s, will join the bank and Ace Hardware in the renovated building, which was the long-time home of Portland Saab before that businesses moved to 183 Route 1.
The Falmouth Economic Improvement Committee is hosting a ribbon-cutting event at the 183 Route 1 building on Oct. 13 at 12:30 p.m. Gov. Paul LePage is expected to attend the event.
“It’s right in the heart of everything,” said David Jones, who will be running the Maine Real Estate Connection office. Jones’ wife, Nancy, owns the estate and antique store that will be moving in. She also runs the Foreside Consignment Gallery on 211 Route 1. The new space will provide the gallery more space for furniture and large items.
“This is bringing four businesses into the town of Falmouth all at once,” Jones said. “I think it will be a great move for everyone.”
