AUGUSTA — Responding to a request from a conservative public policy group, the Maine State Housing Authority is releasing the salaries of its employees.

The state agency released the information in response to a revised Freedom of Access Act request filed last week by the Maine Heritage Policy Center.

Maine Housing Executive Director Dale McCormick says the agency sought to balance privacy rights and the public’s right to know by releasing job titles rather than staff names, along with salaries, on its website, Maine Heritage also got the names.

The website shows the director’s position held by McCormick getting paid $101,520 per year, the treasurer getting $115,314, and on the lower end, a data entry clerk getting $15,990.

McCormick also says Maine Housing employees were paid on average 15 percent less than the comparable statewide average. She noted that no state funds support Maine Housing personnel costs. Funding comes from federal sources and income generated from lending activities.
