EASTPORT — Officials say a U.S. Coast Guard vessel has rescued a Canadian man and two children after their sailboat overturned in Canadian waters off eastern Maine.

Kenneth Stewart, a civilian Coast Guard search-and-rescue specialist, said the Coast Guard got a call at 11:24 a.m. today from Canadian authorities seeking help after the sailboat overturned in Passamaquoddy Bay east of Maine.

Stewart said a 45-foot Coast Guard vessel based in Eastport was on routine patrol and was the first vessel on the scene, rescuing the man and two children from the water. He said they were cold, but otherwise were fine. The three were wearing life jackets.
