PERU — A 16-year-old Dixfield girl has died of injuries suffered in a weekend car crash.

Danielle Ranger, who was a junior volunteer firefighter in her town, was flown by helicopter to the Central Maine Medical Center after police said the car she was driving crashed into a tree in the town of Peru on Saturday night.

Ranger died on Sunday.

The accident remains under investigation.

Ranger, who also played field hockey at Dirigo High School, helped create the Western Foothills Junior Firefighter Program.

Dixfield Fire Captain Jason Hyde, who was Ranger’s cousin, told the Sun Journal that Danielle loved being part of the department and was determined to succeed in everything she tried.
