PORTLAND — Allen Avenue, between Woodlawn Avenue and Yale Street, remained closed tonight after a car crashed into a utility pole.
Lt. Scott Pelletier said the driver of the 1998 Dodge Neon, 42-year-old James Bowie of Portland, was able to get out the car just before it burst into flames. Bowie had to be transported by ambulance to Maine Medical Center after complaining of neck pain.
Pelletier said crews from Central Maine Power Company are working to repair the pole, which snapped in half.
Police are still not sure what caused the accident, which was reported just after 7 p.m.
