AUGUSTA — Gov. Paul LePage is opening up the Blaine House for a food drive that he hopes will ensure that needy Mainers have enough food on the table.

The food drive kicks off Saturday and will continue for the following two Saturdays. Spokeswoman Adrienne Bennett says people who drop off nonperishable food items between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. will be able to chat with the LePages and get a tour of the Blaine House.

Bennett says the food drive is part of an effort to keep food pantries stocked during difficult economic times.

She says there are many programs available to help Mainers, but the governor also wants people to “get back to the mantra of neighbors helping neighbors.”
