AUGUSTA — Gov. Paul LePage says the high cost of doing business is hindering job creation in Maine.

In his weekly radio address today, the governor says business leaders he’s heard from are also concerned that Maine’s work force isn’t qualified for many of the jobs that are available.

To make Maine a more business-friendly state, LePage says high energy prices must be reined in and the state’s regulatory framework has to be streamlined.

He says the state must also do a better job of training students for today’s jobs.

LePage says that recent announcements of job cuts at Verso Paper in Bucksport, Barber Foods in Portland and Lowe’s stores in Biddeford and Ellsworth are a blow, but that he’s encouraged by what he’s hearing from business leaders.
