SANFORD – Meaghan Wells scored with 16:32 remaining as Deering upset Sanford 2-1 Saturday in a Western Class A girls’ soccer tournament preliminary-round game.

Chelsea Saucier had an assist on the winning goal for the 10th-seeded Rams (7-6-2), who broke a scoreless tie with 2:44 left in the first half when Alexis Elowitch assisted on a goal by Edie Pallozzi.

Hannah Kellis scored the tying goal for the seventh-ranked Redskins (9-4-2) on an assist from Natalie Dionne midway through the second half.

LeeAnn Downs finished with 13 saves for the Rams and Sanford keeper Kellie Tovey stopped six shots.

CHEVERUS 2, MARSHWOOD 1: Abby Maker scored on a shot from about 10 yards out to break a 1-1 tie with two minutes remaining as the sixth-ranked Stags (10-2-3) edged the 11th-seeded Hawks (5-8-2) in a Western Class A prelim at Portland.

Olivia Mull opened the scoring for the Stags on an assist from Darby Rawcliffe with one minute left in the first half.

Marshwood goalie Tatum Schladenhauffen finished with 10 saves, and Mikayla Mayberry stopped four shots for Cheverus.

BOYS’ SOCCER

FRYEBURG ACADEMY 9, OAK HILL 1: Stefan Sjekloca, Paul Kurnick and Austin Ward scored two goals apiece to lead Fryeburg Academy (10-5) past Oak Hill (3-12) in a Western Class B prelim at Fryeburg.

GREELY 1, MARSHWOOD 0: Will McAdoo scored with 2:08 left in overtime as eighth-seeded Greely (8-6-1) beat ninth-ranked Marshwood in a Western Class A prelim at Cumberland.

Elijah Leverett secured the shutout with nine saves. Marshwood goalie Jackson Towle turned back 13 shots.

CAPE ELIZABETH 3, KENNEBUNK 0: Tim Lavallee scored twice as the seventh-ranked Capers (8-4-3) beat No. 10 Kennebunk (7-5-3) in a Western Class A prelim at Cape Elizabeth.

LINCOLN ACADEMY 1, LEAVITT 0: Brandon Bonney’s goal with 13 minutes left in the game was the difference as the seventh-seeded Eagles (6-6-3) slipped past No. 10 Leavitt (4-10-1) at Newcastle despite a 16-save performance by Hornets goalie Korey Mulherin.

Merritt Wotton made one save for Lincoln.

VOLLEYBALL

YARMOUTH 3, CALAIS 0: Morgan Cahill had 12 kills and six aces to help third-ranked Yarmouth (12-4) defeat second-ranked Calais (11-5) in a Class B semifinal at Calais.

SCARBOROUGH 3, GORHAM 0: Brittany Bona had 13 aces, 14 kills and three digs to lead the third-seeded Red Storm (14-2) over the seventh-ranked Rams (8-8) in a Class A semifinal at Scarborough.
