CHELSEA — Residents may soon be able to pay property tax with their credit cards.

The service would be offered through InforME, which manages the official state website.

Town Manager Scott Tilton said a convenience fee would be attached to the payment.

“It’s a credit card service currently used to register cars online and hunting and fishing licenses,” Tilton said. “We want to ease into it slowly to pay property taxes. It’s a convenience.”

An InforMe representative will be at the next selectmen’s meeting to discuss the service.

“I’ve had people ask for it,” Tilton said. “It may make collections a little easier for the town, but also improve our cash flow.”
