PORTLAND — The Veterans Memorial Bridge is scheduled to be closed overnight on Wednesday, Nov. 16, the Maine Department of Transportation said in a press release Friday.

The closure from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday will allow crews to finishing installing a communication conduit over the travel lanes.

Detour signs and message boards will direct traffic to alternative routes between South Portland and Portland’s West End. Commuters are encouraged to allow additional travel time.

Suggested detours are:

• Traffic headed northbound on Interstate 295 should use Exit 5 to the Fore River Parkway to access the Veterans Intersection at Route 1 and Valley Street in Portland.

• Traffic from Main Street in South Portland should get on I-295 North and use Exit 5 to access the Fore River Parkway in Portland.
