WINDHAM — Shaw Bros. Construction of Gorham has purchased and plans to operate Busque Construction’s quarry in Windham and a gravel pit in Standish.

At an auction on Nov. 10, Shaw Bros. bought the 111-acre quarry at the corner of Route 302 and Nash Road in Windham for $1.4 million and the 96-acre gravel pit on Chadbourne Road in Standish for $800,000, said owner Danny Shaw.

The auction was held less than two months after the death of Busque Construction owner Peter Busque, 50, who was also a Windham town councilor. His body was found in the Windham quarry on Sept. 29. He died of an apparent suicide.

In total, 17 parcels owned by Busque, covering 945 acres in Windham, Raymond, Standish, Gorham and Gray, were sold at the auction last week.

Shaw Bros. also bought a house lot near the gravel pit, 320 acres in Standish, 40 acres in Gray and 56 acres in Windham. Shaw said the company has no plans for those properties. They are “just an investment,” he said.

Keenan Auction Company, the auctioneer, would not disclose who bought the other properties.
